Teamsters at Las Vegas Hotel Ratify First Contract

Members of Local 986 Win Strong Benefits, Wage Increases

Members of Teamsters Local 986 who work at The Cromwell Las Vegas, a hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip, have ratified their first contract.

The workers ratified their five-year contract by a vote of 23 to 3 on December 8, 2014. The group includes warehouse workers, groundskeepers and valets. The Cromwell, the only boutique hotel on the Strip, was built as the Barbary Coast Hotel & Casino and was later know as Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall and Saloon.

“The workers organized through card-check recognition in October 2014 and now they have negotiated a strong, first contract,” said Chris Griswold, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 986 in South El Monte, California. “The contract includes union health insurance, a pension and annual wage increases.”

The contract also addresses the workers’ concerns about job security and protecting their work.
